Hit-and-Run Horror on A127: Cyclist Seriously Injured

Police are hunting for witnesses after a cyclist was left with serious injuries in a hit-and-run crash on the A127 in Basildon early Monday morning.

Crash Details and Victim’s Condition

At around 6am, a 58-year-old woman on a bike collided with a lorry on the Southend-bound carriageway between the Fortune of War roundabout and Basildon. The cyclist suffered multiple fractures to her ribs, pelvis, and arm and was rushed to hospital.

Lorry Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene

The lorry sped off but was later stopped in Nestuda Way, Southend. The 60-year-old driver from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury and failing to stop after a crash. He remains in custody.

Road Closure and Call for Witnesses

Part of the Southend-bound A127 at Dunton is still closed. Police urge anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage to call 1 Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting incident 71 from 9 November.
