A 32-year-old man brutally stamped and kicked a stranger to death in a savage early morning assault described by witnesses as sickening. Jacob Hill launched an unprovoked attack on 62-year-old Gary Carlisle during a peaceful dog walk.

Frenzied Assault Caught on CCTV

The horrific attack happened just after 6am on 12 March 2025 as Gary strolled his dog Molly, through the Moor Nook estate in Preston. CCTV caught Hill acting erratically before the attack – running into the road and even climbing into a nearby primary school’s grounds. Hill then crossed paths with Gary on Langden Drive. Witnesses say Hill jumped on Gary’s back, dragged him to the ground, and stamped on his head over ten times as Gary lay helpless, bleeding profusely.

“It was horrendous – he was left in a pool of blood,” said one passer-by.

Heroine Battered Trying to Save Victim

A brave bus passenger tried to intervene but was headbutted by Hill, suffering a cut to her nose that needed hospital treatment. Armed officers arrived minutes later. Hill refused to obey commands and was tasered before being arrested.

Psychiatric Illness Leads to Hospital Order

Gary died a week later in hospital from catastrophic head injuries, confirmed by a post-mortem. Hill was initially charged with murder and assault but psychiatric assessments revealed paranoid schizophrenia. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility in February 2026. On 24 April 2026, Preston Crown Court sentenced Hill to an indefinite hospital order. He will stay in secure psychiatric care until deemed safe to release.

Community Mourns Beloved Gary Carlisle

Gary’s family described him as a quiet, community-minded man who treasured his family, friends, and neighbours. Hundreds turned out for his funeral and memorials, deeply shocked by the senseless violence. Police praised Gary’s loved ones for their dignity and applauded the courage of the woman who tried to stop the attack.
