Major Rescue Underway at Sheppey Bridge as Man in Distress Spurs Full Emergency Response

All Hands on Deck at Sheppey Bridge

A massive emergency operation is in full swing at the base of the Sheppey Bridge. Police, fire crews, Coastguard, paramedics, and air ambulances have all been scrambled to the scene after reports of a man spotted in a worrying state atop the old Sheppey Crossing.

Road Closures and Rapid Emergency Action

Authorities quickly shut the old crossing to traffic this morning following the 9am call. kent-police/" title="Kent Police">Kent Police confirmed they were alerted due to concerns over the man’s welfare on the A249.

Two ambulances, a fire engine, and South East Coast Ambulance Service’s HART team rushed to the scene. Kent, Sussex, and Surrey air ambulances touched down near Ferry Road ready to assist.

Life-Saving Efforts in Full Effect

Coastguard search and rescue teams, clad in dry suits, have been seen entering the water to aid the operation. Doctors teamed with paramedics performed a rapid sequence induction on a grass bank near the bridge to stabilise the man.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service also responded at 9.15am, sending two fire engines and the water safety unit to support the ongoing rescue near 1 Way, Iwade, Sittingbourne.
