Storm Isha Set to Slam UK with 80mph Winds and Amber Warnings

The Met Office has named the next big beast to batter the UK – Storm Isha. Expect fierce gusts up to 80mph this weekend, with severe weather warnings already in place.

Amber Warnings for Coastal Areas

  • Amber wind warnings cover northern and western England, parts of Northern Ireland, and select Scottish areas.
  • Yellow warnings for wind and rain spread across all of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The amber alerts kick in from 6pm Sunday until 9am Monday. Meanwhile, rain warnings last from 6am Sunday to 6am Monday. The Met Office warns of large waves, flying debris, possible power cuts, and structural damage, especially along exposed coastlines.

Heavy Rain and Travel Chaos Expected

Northern England faces the worst of the downpours with 30-50mm rain forecast, and some hilly spots could see up to 100mm. Flooding and travel disruption are on the cards, particularly in Scotland, northern England, and Wales.

Temperatures will climb to a balmy 12°C, ending the recent chill and snow. However, southerly winds could blast at 80mph near the coast and 60mph inland, making travel hazardous and raising the risk of damage from debris.

Storm Isha: A Rare Alphabet Event

Storm Isha is only the second time the UK storm naming has reached the letter “I” since the system began in 2015. The last was Storm Imogen in February 2016. The furthest reached was “K,” with Storm Kate in March 2016. The 2022-23 storm season only made it as far as “B” with Storm Betty.

With Storm Isha charging in, residents should stay alert, follow weather updates, and prepare for potential disruptions. Don’t get caught out by Isha’s fury this weekend!
