The brand-new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has London buzzing – but not for the usual high-octane reasons. Eagle-eyed locals spotted a glaring blunder that’s got the capital’s fans fuming over how one of London’s landmarks was botched on screen.
Tube Trouble in Trafalgar Square
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in the globe-trotting eighth installment of the hit franchise. The trailer offers plenty of jaw-dropping stunts and scenes set right in London. But it’s one aerial shot of Trafalgar Square that has viewers whipping out their maps. The clip shows a dramatic crowd and armed forces around a fake London Underground entrance smack in the middle of the square – where the public toilets actually stand.
Londoners know the closest Tube stop is Charing Cross, just outside Trafalgar Square, not smack bang in the centre. The mix-up did not go unnoticed.
“I burst out laughing,” shared one X user. “Why is there a Tube station entrance in the middle of Trafalgar Square? Clearly no one did a proper location recce.”
Another chimed in, “Charing Cross is a whole walk away. This is the Hollywood version of London again.”
London: A Familiar Playground for Ethan Hunt
This isn’t Tom Cruise’s first London adventure. Fans will recall the iconic chase across the rooftops of St Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The capital’s landmarks take centre stage again in The Final Reckoning, with teaser shots of Cruise sprinting past the Houses of Parliament and scenes hinting at an explosion near a famous London site.
Blockbuster Thrills Despite the Blunder
Despite the Tube mishap, excitement is at fever pitch for the film’s release on May 23, 2025. The buzz is all about Cruise’s daredevil stunts and a gripping plot. Yet Londoners are calling out the filmmakers for sloppy details when using their city as a backdrop.
“If you’re going to film in London,” one fan demanded, “at least get the landmarks right.”
