UK Pumps £3M Into Legal Tech Revolution with CodeBase and Legal Geek
The UK government is splashing £3 million to supercharge technology in the legal world. CodeBase and Legal Geek are set to lead the charge and shake up the legal sector with cutting-edge innovation.
Legal Tech: Britain’s Booming Business
The UK’s legal services market is a heavyweight on the global stage – it’s the second biggest worldwide, employing over 300,000 people and raking in around £25 billion a year for the economy.
The government-backed LawtechUK programme is the key driver behind this tech boom, pushing forward new ways to deliver legal services and keep the UK at the forefront of legal innovation.
CodeBase & Legal Geek: The New Dream Team
CodeBase, one of the UK’s largest startup incubators, has helped hundreds of companies scale up. It’s joining forces with Legal Geek, famous for its dynamic events that connect legal players with tech wizards.
Together, these two powerhouses will boost the quality of legal startups and shape the UK’s lawtech future, building on LawtechUK’s success and supporting the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce’s mission to promote English law globally alongside digital legal advances.
Top Leaders Back the Legal Tech Drive
Justice Minister Mike Freer: “The UK is a world leader in delivering legal services and expertise. Our ongoing investment in new technologies will ensure we stay ahead in innovation and new working methods. CodeBase and Legal Geek bring huge expertise that will nurture cutting-edge lawtech innovation in the UK.”
Stephen Coleman, OBE, CEO of CodeBase: “Together with Legal Geek, renowned for top-tier legal events, we’re ready to push legal industry innovation to the next level. LawtechUK will hugely impact the legal sector’s future, and we’re proud to lead this charge.”
Beth Fellner, Legal Geek Director: “In partnership with CodeBase, we’ll deliver a transformative programme that inspires and educates. Legal Geek will help develop the UK legal sector nationwide, giving organisations the culture and confidence to innovate.”
LawtechUK’s Winning Formula
Launched in 2019, LawtechUK began with a £2 million boost to Tech Nation to incubate the programme. It delivers resources and courses to revolutionise how legal services are accessed and offered.
Its successes include the Lawtech Sandbox, helping UK startups build software that predicts and manages legal risks.
Following a competitive process, CodeBase and Legal Geek will take over from Tech Nation on 1 April 2023, backed by the expert LawtechUK Panel to carry forward the innovation mission.
