Fire Chief Neil: The Man Behind Hampshire’s Safety Shield

Neil’s firefighting journey kicked off in 1991. He’s served across three fire services before landing as Assistant Chief Officer (Community Safety) at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2012.

Rising Through the Ranks

  • By 2014, Neil was Deputy Chief and Director of Service Delivery, overseeing community safety, emergency response, and resilience.
  • He managed frontline teams, prevention efforts, safe & well visits, and community self-help plans.
  • In January 2018, Neil was appointed Chief Fire Officer for both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services.

National Fire Safety Leader and Community Champion

Beyond his COO duties, Neil chairs the UK National Fire Chief’s Council Prevention Committee. He guides fire departments nationwide on fire prevention and emergency readiness.

He’s also a trustee of the Blue Lamp Trust, dedicated to boosting community safety in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Leading the COVID-19 Frontline Response

Neil recently chaired the Strategic Coordinating Group (SCG) for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. His leadership ensured multi-agency teamwork to tackle the COVID-19 crisis swiftly and effectively.
