New Driver Faces Ban After M1 Speeding Spree at 87mph – Over Double the Limit!

Race Against the Rules

A newbie behind the wheel is on the brink of disqualification after tearing down the M1 motorway at a whopping 87mph. That’s almost double the 45mph cap set for probationary drivers in Northern Ireland.

Police from Mahon Road Station swooped in after multiple calls from alarmed motorists spotted the Volkswagen Passat hurtling dangerously on the motorway.

Serious Breach of Provisional Driving Laws

Road Policing Officers quickly caught up with the car and found the driver had passed his test less than a year ago, meaning he should have stuck to a 45mph speed limit and displayed ‘R’ plates. Shockingly, neither rule was followed.

Adding fuel to the fire, the vehicle was riding on three faulty tyres. The driver also carries three penalty points from a previous speeding offence, making a driving ban highly likely when he faces court in the coming weeks.

Car Grounded for Safety Failures

Given the dangerous condition of the vehicle, officers slapped a prohibition notice on the car, banning it from the roads until all defective tyres are replaced and the car is made roadworthy.

“This was a serious breach of road safety laws,” a police spokesperson said. “With a dangerously unfit vehicle, excessive speed, and failure to follow new driver restrictions, the risk to other road users was unacceptable.”

#OperationLifesaver and Community Vigilance

The incident is part of #OperationLifesaver, a crackdown aimed at promoting safe driving and slashing road traffic collisions. Authorities are warning all drivers, especially rookies, to stick to the rules to keep everyone safe.

Police praised members of the public for their quick-thinking reports that helped prevent a potential disaster.

“This case shows the value of community vigilance. If you see dangerous driving, report it. You could be saving lives.”
