Greenwich Gets New Electric Shuttle Bus for Silvertown Tunnel
A fresh fleet of electric buses is set to hit the streets as part of a new shuttle service for the Silvertown Tunnel in Greenwich. The £1.4bn tunnel, currently under construction and due to open in 2025, will link Greenwich Peninsula with east London, offering a much-needed alternative to the jam-packed Blackwall Tunnel.
Electric Buses to Slash Congestion and Pollution
Stagecoach, the UK’s biggest bus and coach operator, is rolling out the eco-friendly electric vehicles. These shiny new buses will run on a dedicated bus lane, speeding up journeys for thousands of commuters crossing the Thames. The buses also come with special racks to carry cyclists and their bikes, promoting greener travel options.
Stagecoach Boss Cheers New Service
“It is fantastic that Stagecoach can help expand the ways the local community connect to what matters most to them,” said Paul Lynch, Managing Director of Stagecoach London. “This new addition to our network will build on our ambitions for a thriving local bus network with sustainability at its core.”
Boost for London’s Environmental Goals
The shuttle service is a major win for London’s fight against congestion and air pollution. It aligns perfectly with the city’s broader environmental targets, pushing the capital closer to a cleaner, greener future.
