Blaze Erupts on 13th Floor of Poplar Tower Block
Firefighters scrambled to New Providence Wharf in Poplar last night after a fierce fire ripped through a three-room flat and its balcony on the 13th floor of a 20-storey tower.
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters battled the flames. The London Fire Brigade received 26 emergency calls, prompting crews from Poplar, Millwall, Plaistow, Shadwell, and nearby stations to race to the scene.
Three Hospitalised After Smoke Inhalation
Emergency teams treated one man living in the flat and two staff members for smoke inhalation. All three were rushed to hospital, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The fire was reported at 8:47 PM and brought under control by 9:15 PM, thanks to the swift and coordinated response from firefighters.
Investigation Underway as Residents Voice Fears
Fire officers are now examining the flat and balcony for clues to the fire’s cause. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert while the investigation continues.
Terrified residents praised the emergency services but expressed growing concerns about fire safety in high-rise blocks — a chilling reminder of past tragedies that still haunt Londoners.
