UK Covid Testing Hits Over 266,000 as Death Toll Rises

By 9am on 7 April, the UK had completed 266,694 coronavirus tests. On 6 April alone, 14,006 tests were carried out — though some people were tested more than once for medical reasons.

More Than 55,000 Brits Test Positive

Out of 213,181 people tested so far, 55,242 have tested positive for Covid-19. However, today’s figures do not include data from Manchester and Leeds due to a processing delay. Also, the total tests completed number excludes results from Northern Ireland.

Covid Deaths Top 6,000 in UK Hospitals

As of 5pm on 6 April, 6,159 patients who tested positive for coronavirus and were hospitalised in the UK have died.

Data Updates Explained

Covid test results and death counts are updated daily around 2pm. But data on deaths comes from earlier time points than test results, as figures are collected from separate sources. This explains why the numbers don’t always align perfectly.
