The motorbike rider was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have yet to be informed, but the coroner has been notified. The Honda’s driver, a man in his 60s from Christchurch, escaped injury.

Emergency services shut the road to investigate the grim scene, causing delays over the busy bank holiday weekend.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of the motorcycle rider who very sadly died,” said Police Sgt Lee Savage of the traffic unit.

“We’re conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances of the crash.”

“Anyone who saw the collision or the driving leading up to it is urged to come forward. Dashcam footage could be crucial.”

“Thanks to the public for their patience during the road closure. It was necessary for emergency teams to work safely.”
