Blaze Destroys Shed in Croydon – Firefighters Race to Save Care Home
Four fire engines and 25 firefighters slammed into action after a huge shed fire broke out on Morland Road, Croydon.
Shed Wiped Out, Neighbours Damaged
The large shed was completely gutted. Flames also damaged part of a nearby bungalow and the roof of a neighbouring shed.
Five oxygen cylinders inside the shed posed a serious explosion risk. Fire crews bravely removed and cooled them to safe temperatures.
Care Home Residents Evacuated as Precaution
One man escaped the bungalow unaided before firefighters arrived. Around 36 care home residents and 12 staff were safely evacuated just in case.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported.
Quick Response Brings Fire Under Control
The fire brigade was called at 11:15am and had the blaze under control by 12:49pm. Crews from Woodside, Croydon, West Norwood, and Beckenham stations attended the scene.
Investigations suggest careless burning of waste materials sparked the inferno.
