A massive fire has erupted in the heart of Croydon, forcing officials to declare a “major incident”. More than 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are battling the out-of-control blaze at a warehouse on Lancing Road.
Dangerous Gas Cylinders Spark Explosion Fears
Fire crews in breathing apparatus discovered volatile gas cylinders inside the warehouse, raising fears of a potential explosion. This has intensified the emergency response and prompted the evacuation of several nearby homes.
Chaos on the Roads – Avoid Lancing Road Now
Motorists are urged to steer clear of the area as local roads remain closed and traffic builds up. Residents have been warned to keep windows and doors shut due to thick smoke filling the streets.
Firefighters Battle to Contain Huge Car Workshop Blaze
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to this fire on Lancing Road. The warehouse houses a car workshop that is well alight.”
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken 39 calls since the blaze was first reported at 5.44pm Thursday evening. Crews from Norbury, Croydon, Mitcham, West Norwood, Brixton, and Addington stations are all at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains unknown as emergency teams work tirelessly to bring it under control.
