Mick Lynch Slams Government as Rail Talks Collapse into Chaos
RMT Boss Blames Government for Rail Dispute Deadlock
“We have been reasonable,” said Mick Lynch, General Secretary of the RMT. But he slammed the government as the “dead hand” ruining chances of a deal. Lynch accused railway bosses of confusion, telling different stories at different times. “This whole process has turned into a farce,” he said.
He plans to deliver a clear message to the new Secretary of State this week. Meanwhile, Lynch urged the public to direct their anger not at the striking workers, but at the government and rail employers during the latest walkouts.
Union Calls for Mass Action Across UK Industries
Lynch made a rallying cry to all trade unionists across Britain: “Take a stand and fight for better pay and conditions in your industries.” The RMT is also eyeing coordinated strike action and demonstrations to ramp up pressure on bosses and ministers.
UK Economy Set for Sharpest Slump Among G7, OECD Warns
Adding to the gloom, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has forecast the UK will suffer the deepest economic contraction among major G7 nations next year. While the US and eurozone may limp along with modest growth, the UK and Germany face outright shrinkage.
The OECD warned of a “significant slowdown” in global growth in 2023, pegging overall expansion at just 2.2%, buoyed by emerging markets. But the Ukraine conflict continues to slam Europe’s business, trade, and energy prices.
The G7 group includes the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada. The grim forecast paints a bleak picture for Britain’s battered economy as winter looms.
