Channel Chaos: Over 700 Migrants Make Deadly Crossing on Sunday
More than 700 migrants braved the perilous Channel crossing to reach the UK on Sunday. It’s the highest daily total since Labour took office, revealed fresh Home Office data.
703 Migrants Spotted in 11 Small Boats
The latest figures show 703 people were detected arriving in just 11 small boats. That’s an average of 64 migrants per vessel, highlighting the dangers of these packed crossings. Sunday’s haul ranks as the third biggest daily count this year.
2024 Channel Crossings Surge 13% on Last Year
This year’s total number of arrivals in small boats has now reached a provisional 18,342. That’s 13% higher than at the same point last year, when 16,170 migrants had crossed. Although slightly below 2022’s figure of 18,978, the numbers remain alarming and show no signs of slowing.
Record Crossings Before July Election
The biggest single-day arrival in 2024 came on June 18, when 882 people crossed the Channel. Another spike on May 1 saw 711 arrivals. Both peaks occurred well before the July 4 general election, putting fresh pressure on the government to act.
