Pilot Miraculously Survives Plane Crash on Isle of Wight Golf Course

A pilot walked away with minor injuries after a dramatic plane crash on the 8th hole of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club, near Sandown Airport on the Isle of Wight this afternoon.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

The small French-built Jodel D.11 monoplane suffered engine failure shortly after takeoff, forcing the pilot to ditch on the popular golf course. Emergency crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance Service, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police all responded swiftly to the scene.

Witnesses on the course reported seeing the plane suddenly lose power before crash-landing on the 8th tee. The aircraft, owned by Alan Hamer of Birmingham, was spotted making a troubled descent.

The pilot, described as visibly shaken, received treatment for minor injuries from paramedics. The crash site remains cordoned off while the Air Accident Investigation Branch from the mainland prepares to investigate.

Fire Chief Praises Pilot’s Quick Thinking

“We were called to a light aircraft crash. On arrival, we found the plane down on the eighth tee,” said Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Group Manager Justin Harden. “Fortunately, the pilot got out safely and was assessed by ambulance crews. The police have contacted the Air Accident Investigation Branch.”

“The pilot did incredibly well to put it down where he did. It’s lucky there were no golfers nearby – this could’ve been a much worse incident.”
