Portsmouth Man Charged After Virgin Media Shop Siege

A 20-year-old Portsmouth man has been charged after a dramatic three-hour armed stand-off at the Virgin Media store in Portsmouth city centre on Saturday.

Knife Threat Sparks Major Police Siege

Dozens of armed officers, complete with riot shields and police dogs, swooped on the Virgin Media shop after the man burst in around midday, threatening shoppers and staff with a knife. Police quickly sealed off the busy shopping precinct, causing major disruption.

Charged With Assault and Affray

Hampshire Police confirmed the man is now in custody, charged with threatening multiple people with a knife in public, affray, and assaulting a man in his 40s by throwing a bottle of alcohol gel.

He is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.

After a tense stand-off, officers safely escorted the man out of the building. Police thanked local businesses and members of the public for their calm and cooperation during the incident.
