Urgent Search for Mother and Newborn After Shock Birth in London Underpass

Newborn Delivered in Walthamstow Underpass

Police in east London are in a desperate hunt after a woman gave birth in a grim Walthamstow underpass and vanished with her newborn baby. The shocking incident happened around 8am on Wednesday, 30 July, in the Billet Road underpass.

A passer-by heard the woman’s distress cries and stayed by her side throughout the day. The mother and newborn were then picked up around 4pm by two people driving a blue transit van. Since then, both have disappeared, sparking major safety fears.

Mother Believed Homeless and Missing

The Met Police suspect the woman, thought to be rough sleeping, has not received any medical care since the birth. They are “extremely concerned” for her and her baby’s wellbeing. The woman is described as:

  • White, mid-30s
  • Long blonde hair
  • Wearing a black dress and heavy jumper
  • Possibly named Anne Marie

Police Race to Find Them

PC Dan Cooper of the North East Missing Persons Unit stressed:

“Our top priority is to ensure the woman and baby are safe and receive any medical help they need. She is not in any trouble – our only concern is their welfare.”

Officers are working fast, checking CCTV footage, hospital records across London, and speaking to witnesses and local businesses near the underpass and a nearby Kwik Fit garage.

Police urgently call on anyone who saw the woman or the blue transit van to come forward. Contact the North East Local Missing Hub on 07881 330 956 or call 101 quoting CAD 5617/30JUL. You can also report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
