Teen Cyclist Trapped Under Gritting Lorry in York Crash

A shocking crash on St Helen’s Road, York, left a teenage cyclist trapped under a gritting lorry just before 5pm on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Firefighters Rescue Injured Rider

The rider, a York local in his late teens, was pinned beneath the massive vehicle at the Tadcaster Road junction. Firefighters had to free him while paramedics provided urgent treatment at the scene.

He was rushed to hospital with serious suspected injuries to his lower body.

Gritter Driver Unhurt and Cooperating

The gritter driver escaped without injury and is currently assisting police with their investigation into the crash.

Witnesses Urged to Come Forward

  • Local diversions disrupted traffic until roads reopened after 6pm.
