Fatal M27 Crash: Biker Killed After Swerving to Avoid Wood on Road
Hampshire police worked through the night to unravel the deadly crash on the M27 near Fareham. Tragically, the motorcycle rider died at the scene.
Chaos on Unlit Stretch of M27
Emergency crews were called at around 10.30pm Monday to the westbound M27 between Junctions 9 and 8. A car and motorcycle collided after drivers reported massive chunks of wood scattered across the road. Many motorists made frantic 999 calls, swerving dangerously to avoid the debris on the dark, unlit section.
Multi-Vehicle Collision Shuts M27 for Hours
At least four vehicles, including a motorcycle and a Hyundai, were involved in the crash. The motorway was shut for nearly eight hours while specialists examined the scene, taking scans and measurements. Police completed their investigation just after 5.10am Tuesday, handing the motorway back to Highways England.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
“The man sadly died at the scene and has yet to be formally identified,” Hampshire Constabulary said.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or has dash cam footage to call 101, quoting Operation Kira.
