Tyre Blowout Blamed for Anthony Joshua’s Deadly Crash in Nigeria
Crash Shocker: Lexus SUV Slams Stationary Car
Anthony Joshua is fighting for recovery after a horrific crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The former heavyweight champ was in a speeding Lexus SUV when it smashed into a stationary vehicle in Makun, Nigeria. Joshua was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to hospital in stable condition.
Tragically, two of his closest pals and trusted team members – strength coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Kevin ‘Latz’ Ayodele – died instantly in the smash.
Joshua is now at Lagos’ top hospital, Duchess International, where he will spend several days recovering.
Police Confirm Tyre Burst Caused Crash
Ogun State police chief Lanre Ogunlowo revealed the Lexus was speeding from Lagos to Sagamu when a tyre suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control. Joshua was seated right behind the driver, who also survived.
Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi said early probes confirmed the tyre blowout as the cause. Fortunately, Joshua’s condition remains stable, and no surgery is needed.
Heartbreaking Tributes Pour In for Joshua’s Dead Friends
Sina Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach for over a decade, and Kevin ‘Latz’ Ayodele, his personal trainer and close friend since 2016, were vital pillars in his camp.
Just hours before the crash, Ayodele posted a fun table tennis video with Joshua on Instagram — a chilling reminder of the tragedy.
New Zealand rugby legend Sonny Bill Williams and many others have paid emotional respects, as fans worldwide mourn the loss of these key team members.
Family Opens Up Amid Hospital Drama
“Since the incident, we have been desperate to see Anthony but due to his status, it’s been impossible. We didn’t even know which hospital he was in,” said Joshua’s uncle Adedamola. “His parents are in Nigeria and have reassured us he’s fine.”
Joshua’s mum, Yeta Odusanya, flew to Nigeria and is by his bedside, with the family anxiously waiting news of his full recovery.
Who Were The Two Men Lost?
