Massive Liquid Meth Bust Stops 312kg Shipment to Melbourne
Australian Federal Police (AFP) have smashed a huge drug haul after intercepting 312kg of liquid methamphetamine destined for Melbourne. The daring operation highlights the power of cross-border police teamwork, shutting down a major drug pipeline before it hits Aussie streets.
Operation Tallow: How the US Uncovered the Shipment
In July 2023, US Homeland Security and Customs officers at Los Angeles International Airport flagged a suspicious shipment headed for Australia. Hidden inside two black drums labeled as “vegetable fluid oil” was a whopping 312kg of liquid meth — a clever disguise that almost slipped through. Joint forensic tests are now underway to assess its purity.
Two-Week Stakeout Ends With Rural Delivery Near Melbourne
Once the shipment landed in Australia, AFP and Victoria Police held it in storage for two weeks, tracking every move. On September 5, the drugs were delivered to an empty rural property near Tooborac, about 100km north of Melbourne. When no one came to claim it, officers swooped in with search warrants across Melbourne and Brisbane. The mystery remains whether the consignment was on its way somewhere else.
AFP Calls for Public Help to Crack the Case
“Criminals may be hard to catch with their elaborate schemes, but the AFP and partner agencies work harder to expose their hiding spots,” said Detective Superintendent Kristie Cressy.
She urged anyone with info or who spotted suspicious activity near Tooborac to come forward. The AFP is desperate to stop deadly drugs flooding Aussie communities.
