Party Boat Busted on River Lea – Dozens Fined as Repeat Offender Nabbed!
Illegal Rave Crashed by Police at 4am
In the early hours of Saturday, 13 February, officers rushed to the River Lea after reports of a massive party boat cruising between Tottenham Lock and Hackney. At around 04:20, police found the vessel near Hackney Marshes packed with roughly 30 partygoers blasting music.
Repeat Offender Arrested Over Health Rule Breach
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of breaking Health Protection Regulations. He’s now in custody at an East London police station.
This isn’t his first rodeo. Less than two weeks ago, the same man faced a potential £10,000 fine for throwing a similar illegal gathering.
Heavy Fines and Equipment Seized
The party was shut down, with 26 attendees slapped with £800 fixed penalty notices for violating Covid rules designed to stop virus spread. The Met’s Marine Policing Unit impounded the boat along with music gear, keys, and generators. The Canal & River Trust has been informed.

Chief Inspector Pete Shaw, leading Covid policing in East London, said: “It’s incredibly disappointing that incidents like this keep happening, especially when most Londoners are making huge sacrifices to stop the virus.”
“Every breach doesn’t just risk those attending but also the officers enforcing the rules. This repeat offender’s blatant disregard for safety is dangerous and unacceptable.”
“We must all do our bit to protect ourselves, our loved ones and ease pressure on the NHS.”
How Fines Are Handled
Officers report offenders digitally. These reports are carefully checked by the Met and then sent to the Criminal Records Office (ACRO), which issues fines by post. Repeat offenders risk heftier penalties.
Fail to pay, and you’ll be summoned to court, where fines and court costs could ramp up even further.
