Queen Elizabeth II Memorial to Grace St James’s Park
The Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee has announced a new national memorial to the late monarch will be built in the heart of London’s St James’s Park. The decision, revealed on September 7, 2024, cements plans to honour Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign with a landmark tribute.
Prime Location Near Buckingham Palace
The memorial will sit beside The Mall at Marlborough Gate, stretching towards the lake and the iconic Blue Bridge. This prime spot offers a historic backdrop, just steps from Buckingham Palace and key royal and government landmarks — a perfect tribute to the Queen’s deep ties to British heritage and governance.
Government and Committee Backing
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the memorial as a “place to honour the Late Queen and connect with the shared history we cherish.” The UK Government pledged funding not only for the London monument but also for memorial projects in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Lord Janvrin, chair of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, called the site “a fitting location to honour her extraordinary contribution to our lives.” The design phase kicks off later this year, with top architects and artists invited to submit proposals. The winning design will be unveiled in 2026, marking what would have been Her Majesty’s 100th birthday.
A Lasting Tribute to a Historic Reign
This memorial will join London’s long line of royal tributes, securing Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy in the city’s landscape. It will serve as a space for reflection and public gatherings, reminding the nation of her remarkable reign for generations to come.
