QE2 Bridge Shut for Over Three Hours Over Woman’s Welfare Fears
The QE2 Bridge at the Dartford Crossing was closed for more than three hours in the early hours of Monday, April 14. Police confirmed the closure followed concerns for a woman’s welfare.
The shutdown began shortly after 1:20am when emergency services were called to the scene. Essex Police said the swift response was thanks to a quick-thinking member of the public who raised the alarm.
“In the early hours of this morning, the Dartford River Crossing was closed as emergency services attended concerns for the welfare of a woman. Thanks to the person who made the report, we were able to respond quickly and begin engaging with the woman.”
Traffic Chaos as QE2 Bridge Shuts
The QE2 Bridge, carrying southbound traffic from Essex into Kent, was fully closed while specialists worked to resolve the incident safely.
With the bridge out of action, traffic was diverted through the Dartford Tunnel. This caused delays, especially for larger vehicles, as the tunnel has lower height restrictions and struggled to cope during the early morning hours.
Incident Ends Safely, Woman in Care
Police confirmed the situation was brought to a safe conclusion. The woman involved was handed over to health professionals for care. The QE2 Bridge reopened shortly after 4:30am.
“Thank you to all motorists who were affected by the closure for your understanding and patience,” the spokesperson added.
