Massive Fire Rips Through Derelict Building on Northfleet High Street
Firefighters have battled a huge blaze on Northfleet High Street since early afternoon today (December 8), with crews still on scene almost seven hours later. The fire erupted around 3.10pm in a derelict building along this residential stretch, sparking safety warnings for locals.
Residents Urged to Keep Doors and Windows Shut
As thick smoke billowed from the inferno, authorities told residents to keep their doors and windows closed to avoid inhaling dangerous fumes. Road closures near the Factory Road junction were also put in place, with the public urged to steer clear while firefighters tackle the blaze.
Fire Crews Dump Water on Relentless Flames
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed that ten fire engines, a bulk water carrier, and a height vehicle remain at the scene. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, are using hose reel jets to douse the flames.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
“People are being asked to avoid the area near the junction of Factory Road due to road closures put in place while firefighting operations continue, and people living or working nearby are also advised to close windows and doors as a precaution due to smoke caused by the incident,” said the fire service spokesman.
The operation is ongoing as crews fight to bring the blaze under control and protect nearby homes and businesses.
