Manhole Collapse Shuts Key Isle of Wight Road Overnight

Church Road in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight remains closed overnight after a manhole cover sank, causing major disruption. The closure could last into Friday morning, emergency services warn.

Emergency Road Closure Hits Shanklin and Ventnor

Apart from private cars, all buses are being blocked from serving parts of Shanklin and Ventnor due to the closure outside The Crab Inn pub. The collapse was reported just after 10pm on Thursday, with the manhole surround sinking and the road surface breaking up.

Repair Crews Racing Against Time

Island Road emergency teams and repair crews moved fast to tackle the damage but warned the road repair materials require time to set. Drivers are advised to take a diversion via Victoria Avenue and Whiteley Bank to reach Ventnor.

Buses Forced onto Rerouted Shuttle Service

Southern Vectis confirmed Route 3 services between Shanklin and Ventnor are disrupted. Buses are now running a revised timetable, detouring through Victoria Avenue and Whiteley Bank in both directions.

UPDATE: Repairs are complete and Church Road has reopened to traffic. Normal bus services are back on track.
