Police Officer Mown Down on A3 Near Petersfield
A Hampshire roads policing officer is fighting to recover after being hit by a car while attending a crash on the A3 near Petersfield on Sunday.
Officer Struck While Managing Collision
The 44-year-old officer from the Havant-based Hampshire Constabulary unit was called to a two-vehicle crash on the northbound A3. While dealing with the incident, a red Kia Picanto smashed into him.
Serious Leg Injury and Long Road Closure
The officer was treated at the scene by a critical care doctor before being rushed to hospital with a serious leg injury. The road was shut for more than seven hours as collision investigators combed the scene.
Witnesses and Investigation Underway
- Witnesses say the officer was standing in the carriageway when he was struck.
- The drivers involved in the initial crash— a silver BMW and a silver 1 series— escaped with minor injuries.
- Police have questioned the Kia driver under caution as part of the ongoing investigation.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Officers were called at just after 9.14am on Sunday 3 March to a two-vehicle collision on the A3 near Petersfield. The red Kia Picanto was involved in a further incident, colliding with a serving police officer.”
