Fake Screwfix Father’s Day Giveaway Hits WhatsApp

Beware! A dodgy WhatsApp message is circling, offering a free DeWalt Combi Drill as part of a “2022 Father’s Day Giveaway” supposedly from Screwfix. It looks legit with official branding but leads straight to a shady Russian website.

Screwfix Sounds the Alarm

“We are aware of fake messages circulating via WhatsApp and other social channels using Screwfix branding,” the company warned on their official Twitter.

“If you receive a suspicious message, delete it immediately. Don’t click any links or share it with your contacts. We would never ask for personal details via WhatsApp to enter a competition.”

How to Spot and Stop the Scam

  • The message link does NOT take you to the official Screwfix website.
  • Check URLs carefully before clicking anything.
  • If you get a suspicious message, open WhatsApp, then hit “Block and Report.”
  • Report scam texts to 7726 and notify the impersonated company.
  • If you’ve fallen victim, report it to Action Fraud immediately.
