Security Minister Hails Wales’ Major Counter-Terror Drill
Security Minister Dan Jarvis MBE MP has lauded the swift coordination and dedication of emergency services in Wales after a massive counter-terrorism exercise at Swansea.com Stadium.
The drill, held on Wednesday 26 March, simulated a large-scale terrorist attack. Police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency teams joined forces to test their response skills and contingency plans.
Intense Training Ahead of Martyn’s Law
This high-stakes exercise comes as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, aka Martyn’s Law, passes its final hurdle in Parliament. The new law will force public venues like Swansea.com Stadium to beef up their safety measures to guard against terror threats.
Named after Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, Martyn’s Law makes venues legally responsible for assessing risks and protecting the public.
Minister Praises Teamwork and Life-Saving Skills
“It was an immense privilege to witness the dedicated work of the emergency services and their unwavering commitment to keeping the people of Wales safe,” said Minister Jarvis.
“National security is the foundation of our Plan for Change. This essential training ensures we are prepared for every eventuality and in the best position to save lives and protect our communities.”
Jarvis stressed that success in disaster situations hinges on trust and smooth teamwork between agencies. The exercise also tested the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP), a national system designed to unite emergency services during major crises.
