Shanklin Fire Crew Race to Tumble Dryer Blaze

Firefighters from Shanklin, Isle of Wight, swiftly tackled a smoking tumble dryer at a property on the Esplanade this morning.

Quick Response to Smoky Scene

Just after 10.20am on Tuesday, the Shanklin fire crew and one appliance were scrambled to Fisherman Cottage following reports of a smoking tumble dryer.

Two firefighters donned breathing apparatus and entered the property to remove the smouldering appliance into fresh air.

Smoke Cleared, Damage Limited

  • A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the house.
  • A water extinguisher helped snuff out smouldering clothes alongside the dryer.
  • The quick action kept property damage to a minimum.

Cause Under Investigation

Preliminary findings suggest towels left to dry overnight may have spontaneously combusted, sparking the fire.

The exact cause remains under investigation.
