Si King Opens Up After Hairy Bikers’ Dave Myers Passes
Si King, one half of the iconic Hairy Bikers duo, has spoken candidly about the devastating loss of his best mate and co-presenter Dave Myers. Dave sadly passed away in February aged 66 after a tough battle with cancer. The pair’s chemistry was at the heart of the Hairy Bikers’ success and charm.
A Heartbreaking Goodbye
In an emotional chat with The Observer, King revealed the pain of hearing Dave’s cancer diagnosis and coping with life without his lifelong friend.
“There’s obviously the sense of losing your best mate,” said King. “But there’s also a loss that the adventures we shared can’t go on.”
The Shocking Diagnosis
Dave went public with his chemotherapy treatment in May 2022, though he never named the exact cancer type. King recalled:
“Dave called me. I had to pull over. I just couldn’t believe it. I must have sounded awful on the phone. It was disbelief, pure and simple. I couldn’t properly wrap my head around it while he was fighting.”
Dave’s Fighting Spirit
King praised his mate’s unwavering positivity throughout his illness.
“Dave embraced every moment,” King said. “He used to drive me mad because he never said anything negative. He loved being a Hairy Biker to the very end.”
The Future Without Dave
King admitted life and work feel unthinkable without Dave by his side.
“There is no Hairy Bikers without Dave. It’s plural for a reason,” he insisted. “It’s only in the last couple of weeks I’ve begun to think about what’s next. We were a partnership, a double act.”
He expressed hope fans would continue to support him as he embarks on this new chapter.
“It would be churlish not to thank our amazing fanbase. I hope, whatever I do, they’ll come with me on a new journey.”
Honouring a Legend
Thousands of bikers recently rode from London to Dave’s hometown of Barrow-in-Furness for the first ever ‘Dave Day’ to celebrate his life. Si and Dave’s wife, Liliana Orzac, thanked attendees on stage in a moving tribute.
The Hairy Bikers’ Lasting Legacy
Si King and Dave Myers first met on a TV drama set in 1995 and went on to become household names with their unique mix of cookery and motorbike adventures. They published over 20 cookbooks and fronted popular shows like The Hairy Bikers Ride Again and The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain.
As Si faces an uncertain future, he carries Dave’s memory and spirit with him every step of the way.
