Blaze Destroys Pallets After Generator Overheats
A stack of pallets and cardboard boxes outside a building went up in flames after a backup power generator overheated. The fire also caused minor damage to the roof at first-floor level. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Generator Sparks Pallet Inferno
The fire broke out when the backup generator overheated, igniting nearby cardboard and pallets stored outside the building. Leading Firefighter Nick Matthews, who rushed to the scene, said:
“Crews were initially called to reports of a bin alight and as we approached we saw an orange glow coming from behind a brick wall. Upon investigation, we found that it was actually a stack of pallets and cardboard boxes that were alight. They had been stored outside and placed too close to a generator, which overheated and ignited the pallets and boxes.”
Firefighters Battle Flames Through the Night
Brave crews tackled the blaze through the night, bringing it under control by 12.15am on Monday. Fire stations from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking, Dagenham, and Ilford joined the effort after the brigade was called at 9.37pm.
“Crews worked incredibly hard to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage,” said Matthews.
