Phones Across UK Set to Blast Loud Emergency Alert Sirens
Get ready for a loud, siren-like blare on your phone! The government will soon test a brand-new nationwide emergency alert system designed to warn you of life-threatening dangers.
Government to Test New Emergency Alert System This Month
The new system, launching in summer 2021, sends urgent alerts about severe flooding, fires, explosions, terrorist attacks, or public health crises directly to your phone or tablet.
Before the official rollout, the government and phone networks will run two key tests:
- June 22, 1pm-2pm: Android users across the UK might hear a loud siren. The alert will clearly state it’s just a test. No action needed.
- June 29, 1pm-2pm: Another test limited to Reading residents. This one will send alerts to Android and other devices, explaining how the system will advise in real emergencies.
What to Expect from Emergency Alerts
“Emergency alerts will warn you if there’s a danger to life nearby,” says the official UK government website. “In an emergency, your phone or tablet will receive an alert with advice about how to stay safe.”
The alerts will be issued by emergency services and government bodies to give fast, clear instructions in serious situations.
