Southampton Barristers Raise Over £5,000 for Portsmouth Hospitals’ Renal Ward
College Chambers, a Southampton-based barristers’ group, has smashed it by raising an incredible £5,104.87 for Queen Alexandra Hospital’s Renal Department. The cash was raised at a spooky Halloween-themed ball held at Norton Park Hotel near Winchester.
Fright Night Fundraiser with a Flashmob Thriller
Guests rocked up in creepy costumes for a night packed with auctions, games, and a surprise flashmob performing Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The fun helped raise vital funds not only for the Renal Department but also the Rainbow Trust.
From Patient to Fundraiser: Barrister’s Personal Battle
Dan Nother, a barrister and former QA Renal patient, shared his moving story. “Just over two years ago, I was struck by Goodpasture’s Syndrome, a rare one-in-a-million disease that ripped away much of my kidney function overnight. I spent a month at QA, mostly on the Renal Ward, including a week in ICU after a serious chest bleed. The treatment was excellent, and the staff were brilliant.”
Dan’s journey wasn’t easy. “After a year on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, I was lucky enough to recover enough kidney function to come off dialysis completely.”
Living Proof of Hope
“That was a year ago,” Dan adds. “Now I’m feeling healthy – I run, swim, and enjoy life.” His story is a powerful reminder of the difference donations like these make to patients fighting kidney disease.
