Heavy Thunderstorms Set to Batter Southern and Central England This Weekend
Up to 100mm of Rain to Hit, Flooding Risk High
A fresh band of heavy, thundery rain is rolling in from the south coast on Saturday night, targeting southern and central England, along with Wales. The downpours will push northwards overnight, hitting areas as far north as Sheffield and stretching from Lincolnshire across to Tenby.
Some spots could get drenched with as much as 100mm of rain. This raises serious concerns about flash flooding, power cuts, and major travel disruptions across the impacted regions.
Met Office Sounds Alarm Amid Rainfall Uncertainty
The Met Office has issued a warning running from 9pm Saturday until 6pm Sunday. While rainfall intensity is set to vary wildly, forecasters say some places might see less than 10mm, others between 40-60mm, with isolated hotspots possibly experiencing 80-100mm.
“The exact details are still uncertain,” a Met Office spokesperson warned. “But residents in southern areas, already soaked from Thursday and Friday’s downpours, should prepare for worsening conditions.”
North Braces for Cooler, Cloudier but Drier Weather
Further north, things will be less dramatic, with dry spells and occasional sunshine expected. However, the unsettled weather will stick around into next week, bringing cloudier skies and cooler temperatures.
