Cowes Floating Bridge Back in Action for Fireworks After Mechanical Hiccup
The Cowes Floating Bridge hit a snag just before firework night after a mechanical fault with a prow hinge popped up on Thursday. The vessel was immediately pulled out of service and replaced by a passenger launch running until 11pm – keeping things moving despite the drama.
Quick Fixes Keep Cowes Firework Night Afloat
The passenger launch will get the show rolling bright and early at 5am on Friday. Then, the iconic floating bridge will make a comeback from 6pm until 3am for foot passengers, sticking to the usual schedule for Cowes Week fireworks.
“This issue was totally unexpected but officers have worked quickly to address the situation,” said Council leader Councillor Stewart. “Working alongside the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Cowes harbourmaster, everyone has made every effort to ensure the vessel is operational for firework night.”
Bridge Makers Called In for Repairs
The council has reached out to Mainstay, the firm that built the floating bridge. They’re on the case to investigate and fix the problem ASAP, aiming for a full repair quickly.
