Defibrillator Thefts Hit Sydenham and Beckenham Stations
Criminals have been targeting life-saving defibrillators at Sydenham and Beckenham train stations since January. Four devices have vanished from New Beckenham and Lower Sydenham stations, putting lives at risk.
Sham 999 Call Used to Steal Defibrillator
British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of a suspect linked to the recent theft at New Beckenham station on the evening of June 17. The thief tricked staff with a fake 999 emergency call, requesting the defibrillator’s cabinet code before making off with the vital medical device.
Multiple Thefts Spark Safety Fears
- January 29: Defibrillator stolen at Lower Sydenham station
- February 7: Theft at New Beckenham station
- June 17: Latest theft at New Beckenham via deception
- June 20: Another incident at Lower Sydenham
These repeated thefts have alarmed local authorities and residents. Defibrillators can save lives during cardiac emergencies, and their absence could have dire consequences.
