Storm Isha Set to Hit UK with Fierce Winds and Rain

After a blast of Arctic chill, the UK is about to get battered by Storm Isha. Milder Atlantic air is moving in, but it’s bringing wet and wild weather this Sunday.

Amber and Yellow Warnings in Force

The Met Office has slapped down amber and yellow warnings as gusts of 50-60mph roar across the country, with coastal areas facing howling winds up to 80mph. Inland areas won’t escape either.

Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri warns: “Storm Isha will bring strong winds to the whole of the UK through Sunday and into Monday. Amber warnings cover Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland, Wales, much of northern England, and southwestern England.

In these areas, expect gusts regularly hitting 50-60mph and up to 80mph along exposed coasts. On Monday morning, the far southeast could see 70-80mph gusts as the storm moves away.”

Expect Travel Chaos and Power Cuts

The storm threatens travel disruption, power blackouts, and dangerous conditions near coasts due to high waves and flying debris. Energy Networks Association says: “Amber warnings mean increased risk of damage to homes and infrastructure. Operators are preparing to deal swiftly and safely with any problems.”

They urge residents to:

  • Prepare for outages — check PowerCut105.com for advice
  • Call 105 free if your power goes out
  • Look out for vulnerable friends and family
  • Report downed power lines by calling 105 or 999 in emergencies

Storm Eases but More Wet Weather on the Way

Winds will ease on Monday, giving a brief calm overnight into Tuesday with lighter gusts and fewer showers. But don’t get too cosy — another low-pressure system will push in from the west Tuesday, dragging more rain and wind across the UK.

Looking ahead, southern areas should see improving weather while the northwest braces for lingering wet and windy conditions. Temperatures will stay mild for the time of year.
