Tragic Blaze Claims Elderly Man’s Life in Richmond
A luxury Richmond home went up in flames last night, leaving an elderly man dead. Emergency services rushed to Onslow Road at 8:14pm after a fire broke out in a three-storey property.
Firefighters Battle Blaze as Neighbours Evacuate
Teams from Richmond, Kingston, and Twickenham fire stations deployed four fire engines and around 25 firefighters to tackle the inferno. Several nearby homes were evacuated for safety as flames severely damaged the building’s ground floor.
Heartbreaking Discovery Inside the Home
Despite desperate efforts, firefighters found an elderly man inside, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity remains under wraps as investigations continue.
Cause Unknown as Police and Fire Brigade Probe Fire
The London Fire Brigade received the alarm at 8:08pm and brought the fire under control by 10:05pm. Both LFB and the Metropolitan Police are now investigating the cause of the blaze, which remains a mystery.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “An elderly man has died following a fire in Richmond. Police were called at 20:14hrs to the fire on Onslow Road. Some neighbouring addresses were evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Police remain at the scene.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 8:09pm to reports of a fire on Onslow Road, Richmond. We sent ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and hazardous area response team members. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
