Storm Isha Sparks Water Crisis for 35,000 in Ireland

Storm Isha has left some 35,000 people across Ireland scrambling for water. Heavy flooding and power outages have battered water treatment plants in Mayo, Donegal, Leitrim, and Cavan. Irish Water (Uisce Eireann) warns of ongoing shortages as infrastructure struggles to bounce back.

Power Cuts and Floods Hit Water Supply Hard

Irish Water says the main issues are power failures and poor raw water quality caused by flooding. The utility is racing against time, working closely with electricity provider ESB Networks to restore power to key pumping stations.

“Our crews are on the ground working to restore production as soon as possible for areas where supplies have been impacted,” said Tom Cuddy, Head of Operations at Uisce Eireann.

Cuddy warned that full water restoration could take hours, especially for homes in hilly spots or on the network’s fringes. He urged everyone to conserve water to help speed up recovery.

Officials Thank Customers and Urge Patience

Irish Water appreciates the patience of affected residents and reassures them that efforts are underway to fix the problem fast.

“We want to thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore normal supplies,” added Cuddy.

Residents Urged to Stay Updated and Save Water

Local communities are encouraged to keep up with updates from Irish Water and follow water-saving advice. Cooperation is key to beating this storm-fuelled crisis.
