Heroic Rescue of Young Swan Stranded on Busy M27
A distressed young swan got itself tangled in brambles beside the M27 motorway, but quick-thinking animal rescue officers stepped in to save the day on Sunday afternoon.
Cygnet Found Near Swanwick and Swanmore
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) responded swiftly after reports of a troubled cygnet spotted on the eastbound side between Swanwick and Swanmore, close to Nursling. Teaming up with Highways officers, they carefully retrieved the ruffled and disoriented bird from a tricky embankment.
Safe Release After Close Call
Though not physically trapped, the young swan looked shaken—likely after wandering too close to speeding traffic. Once freed from the brambles, the bird was handed over to Highways personnel and released into a safer spot away from danger.
The rescue wrapped up quickly, with the “stop message” — cheekily nicknamed the “swan-song” — sent out at 10:28 am.
