Floating Bridge Out of Action Again! The Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge has been taken out of service tonight (Sunday), leaving locals stranded once more.
Chain Ferry Suspended – Temporary Launch in Place
The Isle of Wight Council has halted the chain ferry service, replacing it with a foot passenger launch until 10.30pm this evening. No official reason has been given for the latest suspension, but relief is on the way. The Jenny Lee passenger boat is expected to step in as a replacement vessel tomorrow morning (Monday).
Councillor Slams Ongoing Mess
East Cowes councillor Karl Love blasted the floating bridge’s abysmal service record, saying: “We simply cannot continue as we are.” He recently wrote to the Isle of Wight Council’s political leadership, raising concerns about the reduced timetable and its impact on local communities.
So far, only Andrew Garrett, the new Scrutiny Chairman, and Lora Peace-Wilcox have responded. Love added: “No commercial operation would tolerate this ongoing chaos and damage to their reputation. The bridge must be sent back now and two temporary replacement launches bought. This is the only way to offer a reliable service until a new bridge is ready.”
Calls for Joint Council and Business Meeting
Cllr Love has also urged the town Mayor to organise a joint East and West Cowes Council and business association meeting to tackle the issue head-on. “We simply cannot continue as we are,” he stressed.
