Massive Upgrade at Whitfield’s Bastion Point
The government is throwing a whopping investment into Bastion Point in Whitfield, revamping 75,751 sq. ft. of secure inspection facilities and 8,625 sq. ft. of new office space. The former warehouse is being transformed with state-of-the-art inspection rooms, plus chilled and dry storage, ready to handle a surge in food checks post-Brexit.
250 New Jobs to Boost Dover’s Frontline
Dover District Council is gearing up to hire around 250 new staff — from Port Health Officers to Team Leaders and admin support. The revamped Bastion Point site will be buzzing 24/7, ensuring food safety checks never stop as fresh imports flood through the port.
Lucy Manzano, Head of Dover Port Health Authority, said: “Bastion Point plays a key role in the increased inspection regime that ensures the smooth flow of safe food through Dover and onto the shelves of the country’s supermarkets.”
“It also provides a modern working space for our growing port health team as we continue to recruit ahead of July next year.”

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council, welcomed the government cash injection. He insisted it proved Dover’s key role as the UK’s primary trading gateway to Europe.
