Chaos on the M20: Long Delays Hit Freight Traffic
Kent Police and National Highways are battling chaos at the scene, juggling traffic management amid major disruption on the M20.
Heavy Delays with 4.5 Miles of Tailbacks
Freight drivers beware! There’s a massive 4.5-mile jam building up near Junction 8, causing delays of up to 50 minutes beyond normal travel times. The motorway closure is wreaking havoc for both EU and non-EU hauliers.
Essential Diversion Routes – Follow the Signs
- Non-EU freight: Follow the hollow circle diversion. Exit M20 at Junction 8, take the 2nd exit onto the A20 eastbound towards Ashford. Pass through Harrietsham, Lenham, and Charing, then at Drovers Roundabout, take the 1st exit to continue on A20 towards the M20. At Junction 9 roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the M20 coastbound to resume your journey.
- EU freight: Leave the M20 at Junction 8 slip road and rejoin via the entry slip road at the same junction.
Plan Ahead or Face the Wait
If your route crosses this stretch, factor in extra travel time now. Consider rerouting or delaying your journey to avoid being stuck in snarl-ups.
