Airport Chaos Looms as PCS Union Threatens Eight-Day Holiday Strike
Get ready for disruption this Christmas! The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union has announced an eight-day strike at major UK airports, including Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, and Cardiff, from December 23 right through to New Year’s Eve.
Border Force to Join December Walkout Over Pay and Pensions
It’s not just airports feeling the heat. Some 1,000 Border Force workers will strike on December 23-26, 28-30, and December 31. The dispute hinges on pay, pensions, and job security.
Union Boss Warns: Military Backup Won’t Cut It
Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary, has slammed government plans to deploy the military as holiday cover. He said, “There would not be enough time to properly train them,” warning of major chaos at passport control desks nationwide.
“They keep saying their door is open, but it’s a peculiar door with nothing behind it,” Mr Serwotka added, after talks with ministers over a rejected 2% pay rise.
More Trouble Ahead Unless Talks Get Serious
Serwotka vowed to ramp up strikes in the new year if the government refuses to settle. With the hectic festive travel season at stake, passengers could face serious delays and headaches.
