Sheffield Bar Raided for COVID Rule-Breaking
South Yorkshire Police (SYP) and Sheffield City Council (SCC) teamed up last night to raid a bar repeatedly flouting COVID-19 regulations. Despite earlier warnings, the venue continued to breach rules, sparking a full-scale enforcement action.
Twenty Fined in Health Crackdown
Upon executing a warrant, officers found 20 people inside, including the bar’s owner. Each was slapped with a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice for breaking health protection laws. Environmental Health also swooped, seizing 70 shisha pipes from the premises.
Authorities Send Strong Warning
“We want the public to know that police and local authorities will take action to address COVID-19 breaches,” said Inspector John Mallows of the City Centre Neighbourhood Team.
“This location has caused ongoing frustration in the community. After multiple warnings, enforcement was necessary to keep everyone safe and help stop the virus spreading.”
Mark Jones, Sheffield’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Streetscene and Climate Change, added:
“While we understand the challenges faced by hospitality and entertainment businesses, everyone must play their part. We will act against those ignoring the rules to protect public health. We encourage the public to report breaches so we can support compliance and keep Sheffield safe.”
