Huge Python Found Slithering Near Troedyrhiw Woodlands
A giant reticulated python shocked locals when it was found crawling on land near the woods in Troedyrhiw on 18 March. A member of the public quickly handed the massive snake over to the RSPCA clinic in Merthyr for safety.
Not the Biggest, But Still Pretty Scary
RSPCA inspector 1 Milborrow said: “Finding a snake this big out in the open must be a bit of a shock! While this one isn’t the largest – females can reach up to 28ft – it’s still alarming. They aren’t venomous, but they can bite and constrict.”
Owner Investigation Underway as Snake Goes to Specialist
The RSPCA doesn’t yet know if the python escaped or was released. “These snakes need expert care,” Milborrow added. “We’re hoping to track down the owner and get this snake safely back home.”
The snake has been passed to a specialist keeper for care if the rightful owner isn’t found.
RSPCA Urges Snake Owners to Microchip Pets
The RSPCA recommends snake owners ask their vets about microchipping their reptiles. This helps reunite lost snakes with their owners quickly and safely.
Anyone with information about the python in Merthyr is urged to call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
