Strike Action Paused After Pay Talks
Following a fresh pay offer, a key union has already called a halt to its strike action. Health Secretary Steve Barclay met union chiefs on Thursday to hammer out the deal.
£2.5bn Extra for Healthcare Workers
The government’s surprise £2.5 billion top-up for NHS pay looks set to stop new strikes in their tracks. The GMB union hailed the move as a “huge uplift for the lowest paid” staff, keeping wages well above the Real Living Wage.

Rachel Harrison, GMB National Secretary, said: “Thanks to the strength and hard work of GMB’s NHS members, the government has gone from refusing to talk about pay this year to putting an extra £2.5 billion on the table.”
